Known for building precision-made components in the UK, Hope Technology has refreshed its Tech 4 lineup with the new EVO series, designed to handle everything from cross-country to full-on gravity riding. With improved brake power, easier maintenance, and better compatibility with modern frames, this update is tailored for today’s riders—especially those on heavier e-bikes.

What’s New in the Hope EVO Brake Line?

The brake has also been slimmed down to better fit tight frame clearances—a key issue on modern full-suspension and electric bikes. One thing to note: the GR4 does not support vented rotors, a decision made to keep the caliper structure as stiff as possible under pressure.

This makes the GR4 ideal for riders who need confident braking on steep descents, loaded e-bikes, or long, technical trails where brake fade can be a real problem.

EVO TR4: Balanced Power for Everyday Trail Use

If you’re riding technical singletrack, long descents, or all-mountain terrain, the EVO TR4 is your go-to. It also uses four pistons but has a more trail-focused tuning than the gravity-focused GR4.

Hope reports a 6.5% boost in braking ratio over the previous E4 system, offering more bite with less lever effort. Like the GR4, it uses larger pistons for more power and shares the same brake pads, making it easier to manage parts across bikes or groups.

TR4 is ideal for trail and all-mountain riders who want better modulation, smoother stopping, and confidence on the downhills without sacrificing control on the climbs.

EVO X2: Lightweight Control for Cross-Country Riders

Not everyone needs max stopping power—especially XC riders or e-bikes focused on light trail use. That’s where the EVO X2 comes in.

This model pairs the new EVO master cylinder with Hope’s X2 two-piston caliper, putting the focus on precision and lever feel over brute force. The X2 is lighter, sleeker, and perfect for riders who value lightweight control, fast reaction, and minimal drag.

It’s a great match for lightweight e-bikes, hybrid builds, or riders who mostly stick to smoother terrain but still want quality braking performance.

New Master Cylinder Features: What’s Improved?

The biggest changes to the Tech 4 master cylinder revolve around lever feel, control, and maintenance:

• A redesigned cam mechanism reduces “free stroke” (how far the lever moves before braking starts) but keeps the original smooth feel.
• Riders now have three lever blade options to fine-tune their setup:
  • Standard – Balanced for general use
  • Control – Prioritizes sensitivity and precision
  • Teho – Designed for maximum stopping force
• The lever blade has also been redesigned with a more ergonomic hook ja textured surface for better grip—especially useful in wet or muddy conditions.

Simpler Maintenance and Modern Compatibility

One of the most practical updates is a new bleed port on the master cylinder, allowing mechanics or DIY riders to bleed the brakes without removing the lid. That means quicker servicing and fewer chances of contamination during maintenance.

On the caliper side, Hope has improved frame and hub compatibility, stiffened the body structure, and added a sliding guide and secondary piston guide, helping the system run smoother across the full lever stroke.

Designed, Tested, and Built in the UK

True to its roots, all Hope EVO brakes are still designed, tested, and manufactured in Barnoldswick, UK. The EVO range will be available in black or silver, with Hope’s signature anodized accent colors offered as custom options.

Availability starts 1 September, so riders and dealers won’t have to wait long to get their hands on the new models.
